The towpath is a place of folkloric transmission. An ecosystem of local lore including Greyhands; Reed-hags; Swimming Demons; Willow-sprites and Alderings. Every journey along it scuffs up stories of phantom navvies, drowned babies forever floating in search of their mothers.
