W4Q4: I think each teacher has their own strengths on handling these situations and we need to talk about following the lead of the first person on the scene and just being there to support them. We can also discuss while making our BIST plan. #323Learns #belonging323

W4Q3: I need to work more on being present. I’m constantly thinking about what needs to get done and I focus more on “what’s coming” than on “what’s happening now”. I also need me time and time to relax and reflect. #323Learns #belonging323

W4Q2: a lot of Ss have a hard time expressing themselves. Pictures, song, poetry, etc are ways in which they can convey feelings or meaning to help understand their trauma. The more comfortable students are in their communication, the more they’ll communicate. #belonging323

W4Q1: my success plan would include quiet reflection and pause before action. I’m good at deescalating situations and building rapport, but trying to put supports in place to prevent or diminish future crisis is where I can add work. #323Learns #belonging323

W4Q4: I think colleagues need to be open & understanding when working with others & willing to try new approaches. Together we can share successes & find what works best for Ss & the school climate. It’s ok if one solution doesn’t work for all! #323Learns #belonging323

W3Q3: heartfelt collaborative problem solving gets to the root of the problem and shows students you care. It also gives them ownership to the solution and more control and choice which gives them more incentive to make the change. #323Learns #belonging323

W3Q2: kindness centers, turn and celebrate, & encouraging self-talk. I want to incorporate a “positive posts” board where students can add a positive posts no matter how big or small. Nice visual to see how many awesome accomplishments we have. #belonging323 #323Learns

W3Q1: not surprised, but it was a good reminder to share my personal feelings with students and show them how I healthily cope. When I make a mistake I always tell the kids “say, that’s ok, Mrs. Andrews!” Shows them even adults aren’t perfect & it’s ok! #belonging323 #323Learns

W2Q3: our school is so diverse, but I’d like to see more emphasis on celebrating that through having an inclusive calendar and decorating for all holidays. Even having more lunch options that represent more of our cultures that we teach to. #323Learns #belonging323

W2Q4: honestly, students displaying negative behaviors might be lacking any of the three mental resources. Connection, however, relates most to belonging and that is where I would start when focusing on helping these students. #belonging323 #323Learns

W2Q2: seems like without the first core value, belonging, a student cannot achieve mastery, independence, or generosity. There should be a large emphasis on belonging at the start@of each year/class/transition. #323Learns #belonging323

W2Q1: I think most students feel a sense of belonging, but we could do more for students who move in or transfer schools. As for behavior, programs like BIST that take students from the whole don’t help those lacking that feeling of belonging. #323Learns #belonging323
