It's not a very good Gimcrack Stakes field is it?.

Historic horse racing from The Daily Mirror on Ebor Day at York on Wednesday 22 August 1973. Brighton was the supporting flat meeting with jumpers at Devon & Exeter and Worcester rounding off the action.

40 years ago today was Ebor Wednesday at York. The other three cards that day were in the south: Yarmouth and an evening meeting at Lingfield, with jumpers at Devon & Exeter to cap the day off.

The Ebor was always better on a Wednesday. Then again, most things in racing have changed in a depressing way. Yarmouth, and Devon jumpers completed the day. Wednesday 20 August 1980.

The opening day of the Ebor meeting on Tuesday August 1975. Although the fields weren’t large, quality over quantity was clearly the case with some superstars in action on Knavesmire. The dual Derby and Oaks winners, Grundy and Juliette Marny were the headline attractions. High.

Today’s Historic Horse Racing Archive cards look remarkably similar to those in yesterday’s post. However today’s memories come from the Daily Mirror five years later – Saturday 17 August 1985.

Historic Horse Racing archive cards today come from the Daily Mirror – Saturday 16 August 1980. Three televised meetings: Newbury on the Beeb, with Ripon and Wolverhampton on World of Sport had armchair punters eagerly making their ITV 7 selections and settling down for the.

Saturday 15 August 1987 saw flat action at Newbury and Ripon, alongside Bangor over the sticks in the afternoon. Then Lingfield, Wolverhampton and jumpers at Market Rasen provided the evening entertainment.

Daily Mirror Racing on Thursday 14 August 1975, and lots of action over both codes. A competitive Salisbury card, complemented by Yarmouth and Catterick gave plenty for flat fans to savour, with Newton Abbot and Plumpton for National Hunt enthusiasts to get stuck in to on a busy.

Just to let you know, if you are remotely interested, I'm binning X after today. The website will remain active and so will Bluesky and Facebook groups and accounts. I don't like the toxicity of this platform, as well as having security concerns. I may.

Not having Stokes, Archer, Bumrah etc playing is a consequence of the scheduling. Squeeze all the tests into a small window of 45 days to accommodate other cricket at the expense of watching the best versus the best. It’s a huge shame really. Needs to be rectified in future.
