Nu Perspective mass spec being hoisted to its new home.

Congratulations to Sasha Turchyn and collaborators for a successful bid to the NERC Strategic Capital Call 2020 to fund LASER-ENVI – A LASER spectrometer-based Environmental Gas and Gas-Isotope Facility.

Nu arrival! Despite lockdown 3.0, today we've taken delivery of a Nu Perspective IRMS. Installation will happen once normal lab working is resumed.

Always nervous about saying anything was "the first" because it often turns out that someone has done it before ... but this is the first isotopic palaeoclimate record that I know of from a gypsum speleothem.

Getting the lab running again after the Covid-19 lockdown. The venerable SIRA runs a perfect set a Carrara Z standards. The journeyman MAT253/Kiel is also performing well after it's forced hibernation.

Under the hood: the Gasbench. The 8 port Valco valve rotates to send aliquots of sample headspace CO2 to the mass spec in a stream of helium carrier gas.

Repair note: Picarro cavity temperature not stable? These internal fans are the likely culprit. Swap them out for new ones and you should be good to go
