I met Sudanese refugee women in CAR 🇨🇫 – survivors of unimaginable violence and loss. Many still bear scars – seen and unseen – yet their courage shines through. Heartbroken by what they’ve endured, but grateful they’ve found care and safety here until peace returns to Sudan.

In the Central African Republic 🇨🇫, internally displaced families have lost everything. Livelihoods are scarce and, as always, women and girls suffer the most. Yet the will to rebuild is strong. Donor support continues to be crucial.

As I visit one last time Japan, a key UN and UNHCR ally, I wish to thank its government and people for their strong support, hopeful that their engagement in humanitarian and refugee responses will stay steadfast - a crucial manifestation of Japan’s exemplary global soft power.

Mr. Hervé KUATE, UNHCR Representative to the African Union, met with H.E. Amadou Hassane Mai Dawa, Permanent Representative of Niger to the AU. They discussed the AU's much-appreciated support, on humanitarian grounds, to refugees and host communities in Niger.

There’s no “elite capture” of African governments. Those are not elites, they’re thieves in suits. Africa’s real elites are those who serve, build, and innovate for their people. We must reclaim elite to mean excellence in service, not entitlement in office.

Do not forget about the Sahel. About 4 million people are now displaced across Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger and neighbouring countries. That’s 2/3 more than five years ago.

On #WorldMentalHealthDay, @UNHCRNigeria commends 🇳🇬 @GovNigeria for adopting the National Mental Health Act & Policy. Forcibly displaced communities face deep trauma. Together with partners, we’re improving access to mental health care, especially during crises & emergencies.
