High in the rocky slopes of Glacier National Park lives a fuzzy, potato-sized animal called the North American pika (Ochotona princeps). The pika is a lagomorph, in the same order as rabbits and hares, and they are experts at cold-climate survival.

A grizzly trying to get its BEARings! This bear found out how hard it is to regain balance on snow. Crossing snow & ice can lead to serious injuries. Consider turning around instead of crossing a snow field, especially if you don’t have the proper gear. Video Cred: Jacob Hartman

Summer is in full swing here in Glacier, which means our moose are heading out into shallow lakes and ponds to munch on aquatic vegetation beneath the surface. Moose, like bears, may charge if they feel threatened, so always view them from a distance, for their sake and yours.

Glacier National Park is modifying operations at the request of state, tribal, and local public health authorities and to adhere to the latest health guidance. Effective 5 pm on Friday March 27, the park is closed to all park visitors until further notice.

During these cold months, we channel the sun-basking ways of this marmot. The sun provides us with vitamins, health benefits, and generally good feels. During winter, a beautiful sun-basking day is not necessarily frequent here, so we appreciate it when we can.
