1/ The
@nytimes
is continuing to cast Islamic Jihad and Hamas, both of which are openly sworn to Israel's destruction, as merely "opposing Israel's occupation of the West Bank."
4/ So while it's outrageous that the paper did so again today, it isn't a surprise.
More surprising is that it appeared under
@IKershner
's byline, since earlier this summer she reported, accurately, on Islamic Jihad's “long-term goal of replacing Israel with an Islamic state.”
@IKershner
5/ Seems noteworthy that the distorted language was added, perhaps by editors, rather late in the game.
Earlier versions scanned by the Web archive didn't include the language.
The ridiculous language Gilead cites here has been removed, but the article remains lacking in context and slanted against Israel. If
@nytimes
covered the Ukraine war like this, every article would be a regurgitation of the Kremlin narrative, with limited comments from Kiev.

I replied to Tweet by Kershner linked to her piece. Noted that she must have known that armed groups in Jenin were not simply objecting to occupation & cited War of Return by

and
@Adi_Schwartz
. Gratified story corrected though Times' readers agree w/Kershner narrative
