What if we’ve been asking the wrong question all along? As I step into my 50th year, I’ve found myself less interested in what I do, more committed to asking why I do it, and how I want to live while doing it. https://t.co/4ubadc3vO5

Let’s start with a confession, since I’m turning 49, jumping into my 50th year on the planet. Which is, cosmically speaking, an utterly insignificant fact.

No the municipal elections won’t save you from your fears. Not from Christian exclusion, not from Muslim marginalization. What it can fix? Your sidewalk Your transport Your trash problem Maybe give you a real park #BeirutMadinati #بيروت_مدينتي #Beirut #MunicipalElections2025

7/7 Some fear Christian underrepresentation. That’s understandable but this election won’t fix it. That’s a structural issue, not a ballot box one. My vote goes to Beirut Madinati not because they’re perfect but because they’re the better choice. #Beirut #MunicipalElections2025

6/7 Do I like using the brand “Beirut Madinati”? Not really as it has lost its credibility. But I care less about the brand and more about the people, values, and intentions behind them. And in this case, they still count for something.

5/7 Why? 1. Relative independence from party machinery. 2. Clean record, not tied to corruption or clientelism. 3. Competence, many are more capable than their counterparts in the traditional parties.

4/7 That’s why I’m voting for #BeirutMadinati. Despite past disappointments, it’s one of only two serious contenders. And I believe it has a better shot at bringing real value to the city.

3/7 We’re still hostages to regional geopolitics. But that’s precisely why we must act locally. No list will “save” Lebanon. But some may improve daily life: waste, transport, housing, electricity, jobs. That’s not naïve, it’s necessary.

2/7 Since 2020, Lebanon’s political map has shifted. Hizbullah is no longer the mobilizing threat it once was, the Hariri camp has vanished, and even major Christian parties can’t point to a single political success. Reformers, too, have failed to break through.

1/7 It’s been years since I stepped away from politics and the #BeirutMadinati movement. But I still believe voting in municipal elections is a duty. Democracy is built not just through protest, but through choosing who runs our city. #Beirut #MunicipalElections2025

Creative Bureaucracy for 'Government Efficiency' Public dissatisfaction with #bureaucracy has fueled populists calls for dismantling them, but true #governmentefficiency comes from transforming #publicadministration and empowering public servants. https://t.co/ekbJ7BRUo6

The Existential Charm of #Lviv Yesterday’s events in Washington were a reminder that #Ukraine’s future is not determined by diplomatic meetings alone but shaped by its people. A month ago in Lviv, I saw firsthand how #Ukrainians are #beyondresilience. https://t.co/eyMBBBbUCr

9/ I stand in solidarity with my friends who have served at USAID or worked with its partners. Their dedication has been vital to local communities and the U.S. alike. If I can help in any way, please reach out.

8/ This debate also raises broader questions about foreign aid—its purpose, politics, and effectiveness. Perhaps it’s time to rethink the development model: make it more localized, accountable, and aligned with the aspirations of the communities it serves.

7/ If USAID is closed, restructured, or merged, it must preserve the goodwill it has built. The “generosity of the American people” has long been a cornerstone of U.S. influence. Losing it could have serious consequences for American foreign relations.
