Macaques in Gibraltar can be quite aggressive with each other, resulting in injuries, like these 2 females from Cable Car troop #Gibraltarmacaques. It may be different in other populations with less feeding competition @UCamArchaeology @CamBioanth

In Barbary macaques, new infants get a lot of attention, especially by adult males who regularly carry them and "use" them as a social buffer in affiliative interactions. Are they also trying to figure out if they sired them? @UCamArchaeology @CamBioanth #Gibraltarmacaques
