Companies should not be able to run creator's YouTube videos as ads. One of my videos is currently an ad without my permission. It makes me look biased and conflicts with my ethics statement in that video. View duration on that video is in the toilet now and dislikes are up. 🤦♂️😡
The conspiracy theories about how much I was paid by Sony for my review. That I don't even have the R5 and I made up all my thoughts about it. Wow. Just wow, wow, wow. To those people, you're too heavily attached to your brand. Not everyone is going to like what you like.
Here it is! My Sony a7S III video. It's exactly what you'd want from an "Undone" video: 26 minutes of me yammering on about codecs, dynamic range, obscure menu functions, and system stability. But fear not... this camera is as perfect as it gets. 😜👍
I'm about to turn down the largest sum of money I've ever been offered to do a showcase video on my channel because the product in question JUST falls below my threshold to recommend it. I guess I just want a pat on the back from Twitter. 🤣🤓🤷♂️
To those asking: No, I don't have any thoughts on the R5's new firmware--I don't have the camera anymore. In fact, Canon stopped replying to my emails after my review came out. 🤷♂️
Bo Burnham's new special is the most inspiring thing you could possibly watch if you're someone who films yourself. I've never seen anything done better.
Possibly controversial opinion, but to those complaining about the drive speed on the new Sony camera--or any other camera by any brand for that matter--if you can't get the shot with 5-10 fps, don't worry, you weren't gonna get it anyway. 😜🤓🤠
Here's to you lovely people who post supportive comments! I often complain about the 2% of comments that contain unnecessary criticisms, remarks on my appearance, or unsolicited evaluations of my worth as a human. But today I'm thankful for the 98% of you that lift me up. 🤓💜🙏
I just had a surreal moment. I was looking at who I follow and noticed that 90%+ of the amazing creators I follow on here that inspire me, follow me back. I watched many of you before I even had a channel. It's very trippy, but I'm grateful to be a part of this community. 🤓🙏💜
1. Puts out free 49-minute guide helping people get better results from their camera.
2. Gets 6 dislikes almost immediately.
3. Laughs.
4. Eats Banana.
Yes, I was featured in the latest Sony newsletter. To my rational followers who assume this was just Sony fairly leveraging my positive review, don't be so rational! I was actually paid $125,006 for this article and I get 69% of all revenue from every a7S III sold worldwide. 🤠💁♂️
Filming a video today about log vs linear footage and why adding contrast and saturation is not enough for log. I'm making it either way, but let me know if this topic sounds exciting to you. 😜🤓👍
Okay,
@canonrumorsguy
, I've reached out thrice now and even sent an email. You won't seem to respond to me directly, just insult me on other tweet threads. Not sure what else to do, but I gotta move on now. Offer still stands, but if not, I hope you find some peace. Take care.
Today I announce that I officially have a new favourite camera. The Sony a1. 🤓🎉
So now the the timeline of Gerald's favourite cameras goes:
7. Sony a1
6. Sony a7S III
5. Canon C500II/C300III
4. BMPCC4K
3. Sony a7 III
2. Panasonic GH5
1. Canon 5D III
YouTubers always be like, "Look how complicated my timeline is for my next video." And I'm always thinking, "You ever heard of a compound clip? That's just messy and inefficient, not impressive." How do y'all even find anything in those labyrinths?! 🤓💜🤣
A message to any new YouTubers: Don't try and build an audience by making a hit piece or negative review of another creator. Maybe in certain niches that works, but in tech/creative it just looks bad and never seems to yield wanted results from what I've witnessed. 🤓👍
Ugh! These overheating tests take so long to do because you need to leave them to cool for a good 2 hours before you can run another valid test again. I've made a chill room to try and cool them down quickly, but still. I think I'm on hour 35 of overheating tests. Almost done...
I dedicate a small window of time each day to replying to messages & comments. It's disappointing to see one like this. We should not act entitled to a creator's time. Not to sound big time, but I receive 500+ comments & 150+ DMs every single day. I'm trying my best, I promise.🙏
Good news! My a7S III guide for picture profiles, colour, exposure, etc. is shot and the edit has begun. Currently the video is only 95 minutes long...🙃🤦♂️
I'm aiming for 30 minutes, but I might need to set more realistic expectations. I'll try to keep it under an hour though. 🤠
Latest video is underperforming big time, which surprised me a bit. 😭
Also, it has several endlessly annoying comments telling me how I *should* be setting up my desk instead. As if a 35 year-old man who edits 60+ hours a week doesn't know how he likes his own desk set up. 🤦♂️
I think the Canon R6 with a Ninja V is a better use of money than the R5. Oversampled 4K60 with unlimited record times and a terrific codec, while leveraging the better pricing of sata SSDs over CFExpress. If I had to give a recommendation on specs alone, that would be it.
The best part about watching older
@calebpike
videos is reading the comments and seeing channels that have since blown up telling Caleb how much they love him. We all owe a lot to DSLR Video Shooter. 🙏💜
More bad news about the R5. Every minute that you spend taking photos with it reduces the time you can shoot HQ video. Today I shot photos for 1 hour in 30C summer weather, and by the end of it, I switched to video and the overheat warning was on and 0 mins remaining due to heat.
Latest GH6 video is my most disliked video in a long time. I guess people forgot I'm one of the original GH5 hype boys. 😜 Built my channel on the M4/3 system. I still mostly praised the GH6, but I had some reasonable criticisms. Fan groups got no chill.
New video! This is something very different from me. I think my fellow YouTubers are really gonna dig it, but I'm hoping there's something in here for everyone. But if not, I'm still glad I made it for me. 🤓🙏💜

The most requested studio I tour next is
@petermckinnon
's. What do ya say, Pete? Want me to come make fun of you for a few hours? It sure would be easier than going to LA each time. 😜🇨🇦
I posted a studio tour video this morning. Since then, I've made some tweaks to the shot. Here's what it looks like now. I'm really enjoying how this looks. 🤓👍💜
So, I've shot and done a basic edit on that log/linear video I asked you about earlier today. It's 30-minutes of me yelling theoretical ravings about curves and luminance values. Why did I think this was a good idea? 🤓🤦♂️🤣
At least once a day I see comments like this calling me abnormal or saying I talk fast to fakely impress or compensate for a lack of intelligence or self-confidence.
I just talk quickly. I do everything quickly. I don't know how to be slower. IRL people think I'm on drugs. 🤣🤓👍
I'm conducting an experiment. I've disabled all mid-roll ads from my YouTube channel for the month of September. I'm going to see how it affects my ad revenue. If the impact isn't too heavy, I'll leave them off. Either way, I'll let you know the impact. 🤓
So I saw a fascinating video recently by
@GeraldUndone
about video waveforms, and today I've been tinkering up a visualisation to help explain how they work.
It's Really Simple™ - just think of the image as a five-dimensional object being rotated 90° in three-dimensional space.
Just recorded a video and it was full gonzo. I had a table full of junk, no script, a nuisance fly, FedEx called me about my delayed a7S III shipment in the middle of it, and it sounded like a war zone outside for some reason. The video goes up tomorrow. Should be terrible. 🙃🤠
What if I just stopped reviewing cameras and started reviewing the mundane? 🤔
I'm envisioning absurdist reviews of bananas, my cat, or a piece of wood. I think that would entertain me. I'm not sure about anyone else though. 😜
Yes, I am working on an updated Sony Picture Profile guide for the a7S III. This one will be better than my old one. Analyzing dynamic range, colour accuracy, exposure considerations, and post workflow. Just need a couple more days. 🤓🙏
I know I've been dwelling about the GH6 response, but I expressed some sentiments in a comment thread today that I'd like to share with everyone, because I think they're important from a YouTuber's perspective and often overlooked.
I got a few comments like this on my recent video about the same moment in my video. They annoyed me. So I made this reply and posted it here on Twitter to make myself feel better. YouTube is weird. ...I'm weird? 🤷♂️🤓🤣
Haven't really shared these guys with you lot yet, but these are my kitties. The one with the crazy eyes is Tig, a 4-month old tabby, and the one that likes to rest on my face is Lollipop--who is 7 months. Full reviews coming soon, but so far, they're purrfect. 🤓💜🐱
New video! Here's what I've been doing lately--building out the new studio. Here's a tour of the work in progress. I suck at vlogging, but I hope it's helpful. 😜🤓👍
A bit too much internet for me today. Heh. Sorry for occasionally ranting/replying to the negative stuff. I should instead be focusing on the other 96-97% of you that are supportive, incredible viewers. I appreciate you. Thank you. 🤓🙏💜
A reminder to always trust your instincts and not base creative decisions on comments. Back to back comments like this show you can't please everyone. Also, I've been adding comedic stuff into my videos for years. So, you can't always trust their frame of reference either.
Woke up this morning to over a dozen requests for me to review the C70 already within hours of it being announced. Alright,
@CanonCanada
, let's make it happen. 🤓🤠👍
I think trophy hunting should be encouraged with the caveat that it has to be done barehanded. I would be thrilled to see these bozos bare-knuckle box a leopard, etc. I feel like the problem will sort itself out.
For everyone asking me about S-Cinetone on the a7S III.
The ISOs are 100 & 2000.
Maximum zebra level is 109+
Expose naturally, but protect highlights.
Dynamic range is about 1.5 to 2 stops worse than S-Log3.
I got the chance to test out the new Porsche Taycan 4S for a week. It's ridiculously fun to drive--probably the most fun I've ever had driving a car. It's fast, incredibly smooth, and grips the road like I've never felt before. 🤓

1. Make 90-minute video detailing channel ethics.
2. Get called a shill in the comments of that video because according to one delusional commenter the Canon RP is smaller than the a7C and I was paid by Sony to lie about it.
3. Tweet about that comment.
4. Profit?
🤣😜🤓
There's a misunderstanding of what the word "bias" actually means in the YouTube comments section. Liking a product or even an entire brand is not a bias. Bias is a prejudice that prevents fair analysis. And it's impossible to gauge someone's bias when you disagree with them. 🤠
Interesting observation: I've shot my last couple videos on the a7S III, but it wasn't until I told people in a video that I was shooting on it that any comments about colour came up. You see what you want to see. 🤔
