Prep is in full swing for #GeoSPACE24! We are always trying new ways to build connections between our virtual students and field activities. New this year, we created rock kits with loaner samples from some of our field sites, plus some souvenirs to keep. @AccessibleGEO

This time last year I was exploring the awesome geology of Arizona with the incredible @GeospaceUF programme. The importance of accessing field work is something I will never stop talking about. The confidence, joy and learning I gained from the experience is incalculable ๐๏ธโฟ๏ธ

Welcome to the homepage of the Geospace Project at the University of Florida! GeoSPACE is a hybrid field course that provides experiential learning in planetary geology, volcanology basic field...
SP Crater works well for us because there are interesting things to study near, far and in between. But we want everyone to be a part of all of it! We set up streaming video with 2 way audio so folks at the summit could share with folks back a base camp. #geospace23

I gave my first solo presentation at @geosociety in Oct! I talked about the awesome @GeospaceUF tech setup at SP Crater. We were able to talk to the group at the top of the volcano from the base! You can watch my presentation here:

Another thank you from this year's course goes @USGS_AstroGeo for a tour and talk! Our students and faculty greatly enjoyed meeting people with careers in planetary science, learning about what you all do, and looking at all the cool images and artifacts.

It is time for another huge thank you, this time to @AccessTrax - last year our wheelchair users had some issues with wheels sinking into the gravel and sand when parked at base camp. Portable flooring was just what we needed and made things much more accessible! #geospace23

We visited Walnut Canyon to practice stratigraphy. But the visit was made extra special when Head Ranger Ryan took the initiative to sign up our disabled students for Access Passes, which gives lifetime access to all national parks. Thank you so much, Ranger Ryan!! #geospace23

We didn't get to visit Sunset Crater last year due to wildfire closures, so it was awesome to take our students to this very accessible volcano this year. Virtual students gave us an intro with remote sensing, then @lisgallant walked everyone through lava flow basics on site.

Meteor Crater is a wonderful place to study impact cratering and meteors where astronauts train for off-planet geology. The staff are always great with our group, even when we take up too much space livestreaming to our virtual students. Thanks @MeteorCraterAZ! ๐#Geospace23

Educators, remember what "the pivot" was like in 2020? We're moving online for now for the wellbeing of our students and local community. But this field course has always been hybrid, so we have an advantage moving folks into engaging virtual learning options. #geospace23 ๐ท
