GEMA/HS Public Assistance Grant Specialist, Lekan Salami, delivered a Public Assistance check in the amount of $1,750,965.44 to @ga_dps. These funds, provided through FEMA’s Public Assistance program, will support recovery efforts from Hurricane Helene (DR-4830).

GEMA/HS is excited to welcome Shanquita “Shan” Smoot as our new HR Specialist!. Shan brings a wealth of experience across both military and public sectors, having most recently served in various HR roles with the Department of Corrections and the Department of Juvenile Justice.

GEMA/HS Field Coordinator Mandy Juarez participated in a Threat and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment in Columbus that brought together local officials, first responders, and community partners to identify risks, assess capabilities, and enhance preparedness strategies.

Homeland Security Coordinator Curtis Harper provided active attack response training to faculty and staff at Appling County High School in Baxley. GEMA/HS Homeland Security Coordinators continue to partner with schools to focus on safety and security for the new school year.

GEMA/HS conducted a Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) exercise by establishing operations at the Alternate State Operations Center in Forsyth. This exercise tested our ability to continue to operate when primary facilities are unavailable due to disasters.

GEMA/HS Field Coordinators, Jonathan Jones and Mandy Juarez, presented the Local EOC Concepts and Operations course to Lamar County officials. We thank all participants for their dedication to protecting Georgia’s citizens.

GEMA/HS Field Coordinator Sheri Russo presented the Incident Command for Elected and Senior Officials to the Rockdale Court System. This course provides local officials with an overview of how they can support incident management through the National Incident Management System.

GEMA/HS utilized grant funding to host renowned transnational gang expert Richard Almonte to the @GPSTC, where he trained over 400 gang investigators from across the state. Georgia remains committed to keeping these dangerous criminal networks out of our communities.
