Zarah Sultana is married to a white guy. She’s got a West Midlands accent. And she has all the irritating views of a white woman of her age, education and class. Even more vehement. Muslim women do not - on the whole - believe men can be women.
@residentadviser The problem with Zarah is that she was born here, but seems to hate the country, 99% of its inhabitants, and to identify more with another culture. So it’s hard for lots of people to see her as ‘one of us’ in even the widest sense. Her Britishness seems accidental and convenient.

Balkan Islam and South Asian Islam are at opposite ends of the Muslamic spectrum, and neither can comprehend each other.
The East London Mosque is doing a Charity Run and has banned girls over the age of 12 and all women from participating. I will never, ever get over the deeply ingrained misogyny within the Muslim community in the UK. It is everywhere and it is constant. It makes me miss home.
