After #Israel pushed #Iran out of Syria, Türkiye pushed for a centralised #Ankara friendly gov while 🇮🇱 wants a weak state. SDF integration into the SA stalled to 🇹🇷’s dismay. SDF maintains relations w Israel & the US and has strategic assets (hydrocarbon resources & IS prisons).
#Iran just cant shake the nightmare it is in. #Israel & the US threaten to attack again. Its currency in free fall. Its allies are all weakened or gone (Hamas, Hezbollah, Assad, the #Houthis). Its facing sanctions, nationwide protests & a huge water crisis

AlShabaab & the Houthis threatened #Somaliland after #Israel recognized it. An #Israeli base is expected to increase tensions further, even from within Somaliland betw unionists & secessionists. This comes at a moment that the Horn already is dealing w multiple crises.

#Netanyahu did not give the recognition of #Somaliland much thought: #Israel recognized it one week before Somalia chairs the UNSC. Somalia can then set meeting agenda’s & steer discussions. This boosts Somalia’s diplomatic legitimacy & gives it a powerful diplomatic stage.

The IDF announced the signing of a trilateral military cooperation plan w Greece & Greek Cyprus. Many see this as an anti Turkey alliance. #Israel also sees the #Turkish presence in Syria as a threat. Turkish radars there limit the movement of the IAF. 🇹🇷 is also a #Somali ally.

The #Eritrean gov keeps backing the Somali gov despite the fact that Mogadishu grew closer to Addis after Turkish led talks. When Ethiopia wanted to sign a MOU w #Somaliland, Eritrea supported Somalia. When Addis wanted to Annex #Assab, the Somali gov did not return the favor.
