The partisan brain effect is extremely robust! The “concordance-over-truth” bias persisted across education levels, analytic reasoning ability, and partisan groups, with a stronger effect among Trump supporters. Extreme Trump attitudes are the strongest predictor:

In research led by @michaelschwalbe of our lab, partisan bias trumped truth in people’s belief and sharing of real + fake news— an effect that held across ideology, education level, and cognitive ability. Critical thinking begins with being critical of our own minds.

Fascinating (and frightening) work by @michaelschwalbe et al: Resistance to true news that didn’t align w political beliefs was greater than susceptibility to fake news that did. This means it may be harder to spread truth in today’s media climate than we thought..

I’m learning a lot from Dr. Bettina Love’s book, Punished for Dreaming. Love’s book shows how many school reforms have undermined the opportunity, potential, and belonging of millions of Black children.

The N-heuristic may incentivize large, fast, non-behavioral online studies, and deter research on underrepresented populations, immersive in-person studies, group dynamics, and long-term change.

Small N studies with large effects replicate more reliably than large N studies with small effects. Despite this, many in the field consider large N to be the key factor determining replicability—what we call the N-heuristic.

Using Twitter may satisfy the need to belong as junk food satisfies hunger, leaving you feeling worse and disgusted.

Twitter use is related to decreases in well-being + increases in sense of belonging, polarization, outrage, and boredom. Doomscrolling was related to the drop in well-being, using it for entertainment was linked to the increase in polarization: https://t.co/1EDVbCgJkW

The trouble with inaptly named "inclusionary" zoning is that it assumes a permanent housing crisis. The effective tax means that rents can never fall below a certain threshold—once market rates aren't high enough to cross-subsidize, all production stops.
