Myrtle’s Brooklyn Streich fires a pitch to West Union’s Lucy Jumper in the first inning of their MHSAA 1A state best-of-three softball semifinals series Tuesday. Streich and the Lady Hawks won 9-4 in Game 1. They’ll play Game 2 Thursday at Myrtle.

Myrtle sophomore first baseman Khloe Bennett went 3-for-4 with two doubles Tuesday to lead the Hawks to a 9-4 eight-inning victory over West Union in Game 1 of the MHSAA 1A state semifinals series. Game 2 is scheduled for 5:30 pm Thursday at Myrtle.

A fired up West Union baseball coach, Ashley Russell, addresses his team Monday following its 5-1 Class 1A state quarterfinal baseball series win over TCPS. The Eagles play county rival Myrtle later this week in a best-of-3 state semifinals/North half series.

West Union senior pitcher Grant Martin worked seven solid innings Monday to help the Eagles defeat TCPS 5-1 to clinch their 1A state quarterfinal series in two games. He gave up two hits, struck out five and walked two. Next up, county rival Myrtle in the state semifinals.

West Union’s Lady Eagles are headed to the 1A state softball semifinals next week following Saturday’s quarterfinals sweep of Wheeler with a 4-2 victory. They’ll play the winner of the Myrtle-Potts Camp series for the right to advance to the state championship series.
