Microbiology has changed quite a lot. Years ago, excitement in the group came from a new colony of anaerobic microbes growing autotrophically on agar plates. Today, same feeling after getting bands showing expression of target genes in soils 🤗💪 #undergraduate work @IEA_UdG

Xanthobacter flavus occurred as the main responsible (40% relative abundance) bacterium for CO2 fixation and N assimilation into protein (~85% of the biomass). The work advances on the use of HOB and bioelectrochemical platforms for protein production.

In our last contribution we continued our work on the use of electrochemically assisted reactors for the growth of bacteria in strictly autotrophic conditions. In our systems O2 and H2 are produced in situ and CO2 added externally

Our results indicate that a poised electrode is not sufficient for the whole process, and oxygen is required. However, we show that hydroxylamine oxidation can be, at some extent, bioelectrochemically assisted.
