The reason Americans consume lots of high fructose corn syrup instead of cane sugar is also because of import tariffs (and quotas) imposed by a president.

Killing-off Billingsgate and Smithfield markets is a horrific erasure of London's medieval food trading heritage. I loved visiting these markets. For the first time in nearly 1,000 years, London will be without wholesale meat and fish markets.

Smithfield and Billingsgate markets, which have traded in London for hundreds of years, face the axe.

It's hilarious that the petition for a general election has got over a million LESS votes as the petition for a second Brexit referendum, which obviously didn't trigger a second referendum. Keep trying guys, keep trying.

Very odd to see JSO support industries which are dependent on fossil fuels. Looks like a case of FOMO tbh
Today, Just Stop Oil Supporters joined the Farmers’ March in solidarity with agricultural workers demanding a future. Farmers are being failed by government policies, cheap imports and supermarket greed, while the climate crisis threatens to destroy food production entirely.

Been at the farmers protest this morning and what I am genuinely trying to understand is why farming should be exempt from inheritance tax compared to other low-profit margin, family run businesses which have property assets?

It's interesting to watch America from an outsider's perspective and see how they will deal with their decline. They've peaked as a global power and are now on the way down. It happened to every big global power in history, and now it's America's turn.

For a nation obsessed with guns I'm surprised how few medals Americans win at Olympic shooting

The biggest turning point in French authority over food is when an American pointed out they'd never heard a French person pronounce 'hamburger' correctly so they had no right grandstanding about the American pronunciation of 'croissant'

The French crowd booing Tom Pidcock over the finish and on the podium is such assholery! That was terrible sportsmanship, especially considering Pidcock rode a phenomenal race

Why is laying in bed far more relaxing in the morning than it is in the evening?

Can we take a moment to admire how good the https://t.co/TA2m8XX1Ku website is? The user interface is amazing, the navigation simple, and the processes are simple. Best in the world. Now apply that design thinking to all government activities please

Trapping thousands of people and holding them captive on a road where they have no means of escape is not a 'peaceful' protest, it's very clearly an aggressive action that caused harm to many people

The Twitter algorithm is utter trash these days. My feed is almost 100% American republican grandstanding and conspiracy nonsense. It’s a digital version of the national enquirer. Why the hell would it feed a UK user solely American content?!? Makes no sense. Utter tripe.

“I’m eating a vegetarian diet based on chicken” “I’m eating a carnivore diet based on Pringles” ”I’m taking a few months off alcohol to drink wine occasionally” 😂

Someone on a podcast said “low carb diet based on the Mediterranean diet” which is making my brain hurt because carbs are the largest energy source in the Mediterranean diet

What advice would you give to someone who is food insecure/experiencing food poverty? Assuming you cannot give them money/food personally.

It's absolutely meaningless for anyone else, but I'm over the moon to have dropped below 2 min/100m average pace in the pool last night over a whole 2.5k session. Learning to swim is such a rewarding skill to learn 😊
