The acceptability of physical intimate partner violence is more prevalent among women who belong to SC, ST, and OBC groups, exhibit poor wealth status, and reside in rural areas.

Women employed in agriculture show a higher level of acceptability of PIPV relative to women who are not working or employed in non-agricultural occupations. 6/n

The acceptability of PIPV of married women remains consistently higher than that of unmarried women. 5/n

Women with higher education exhibit the lowest level of acceptability of PIPV, while those with no formal education demonstrate the highest level of acceptability.4/n

The level of acceptability of PIPV appears notably higher among older women as compared to younger women. 3/n

Our results show a decreasing trend in the level of women’s acceptability of PIPV over the past 15 years. Despite this decline, almost half of the women surveyed in 2019–21 still justify PIPV. 2/n

One key finding of our paper: Urbanization can enhance one dimension of women's empowerment while simultaneously deteriorating another. The relationship is nuanced—progress in one area doesn’t always mean progress in all. #WomenEmpowerment #Urbanization.

These findings highlight the urgent need to complement family planning programs with efforts to:. 📢 Raise awareness about equitable decision-making in households. ⚖️ Address patriarchal norms that resist women's reproductive autonomy. 5/n.

We find two major trends:. ✅ Declining women's excess fertility & husbands' alcohol consumptionare linked to reductions in PIPV. ❌ Rising contraception use among women appears to be associated with an increase in PIPV. 4/n.
