Almost every company that has a 401k has a committee whose responsibility is to look at the investments available to the plan’s participants and the performance of those options (typically in conjunction with another fiduciary who helps administer the plan).

Previously, 401k participants would need to open a “self directed” account which was connected to their employer’s 401k, IF the plan even allowed it. Then the individual would have to pay the fees themselves for potentially the transaction and having a self-directed account.

This is a big deal for a few reasons. Foremost, 401k committees can now consider having bitcoin ETFs as a base option along side S&P 500, mid-cap, low-cap and other traditional investments.
