On August 18 Rosalynn Carter turned 96 years old. Born in 1927, the former First Lady has lead a long life full of service to others. Mrs. Carter has been a champion for mental and emotional health and caregiving throughout her career. Happy Birthday First Lady Rosalynn Carter!

Beginning with Freshmen entering high school in the 2024-2025 school year, all students will be required to take a financial literacy course their 11th or 12th grade year. Currently, the Personal Finance & Economics course (45.061) satisfies this state requirement.

SB220 and Financial Literacy Guidance:.Senate Bill 220 (2022 Legislative Session) adds a requirement, beginning in the 2024-2025 school year, for students to complete at least a half-credit course in financial literacy during their 11-12 grade years in order to graduate.

3. The terminology for the event listed as the “1906 Atlanta Riot” or the “1906 Atlanta Race Riot” in the standards will be changed to the “1906 Atlanta Race Massacre” to more accurately reflect the event and resources provided by statewide historical organizations.

2. The American Indian nation listed in the standard as “Creek” will now be listed as “Muscogee (Creek)” as this is the accurate legal name listed in the federal registry and the name preferred by members of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation.
