We must end the practice of placing responsibility on the victim of harassment, and instead, normalize the practice of those in power calling out and educating the perpetrator.

A culture of passively dismissing inappropriate behavior signals to URM students that they are not welcome in academia. When advisors use their power to build a culture of no tolerance for discrimination, they enforce an inclusive environment allowing their trainees to thrive.
