My brilliant cousin Patrick, named after our grandfather, recently visited Seoul and saw his name among the UN fallen at the War Memorial of Korea.

While nothing can undo the pain of the past, we are privileged to have this precious further clarity on his final resting place at the #UNMCK. It is knowledge that so many families with missing loved ones would deserve, and I hope others may yet find more clarity too. (5/8).

Like so many millions of other deaths in war, Pat’s tragic death in the Battle of the Imjin River left ripples still felt across the generations. Among other things, the fact that he had no known grave left a double emotional void for our family. (3/8).

Pat was killed in action with A Company of the 1st Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment on 중성산 (‘Castle Hill’) on 23 April 1951, 73 years ago this week. @SoldiersofGlos @UKinKorea @UN_Command (2/8).

Four hitherto ‘unknown’ British Army burials at the UN Memorial Cemetery in Busan have been newly identified by the Ministry of Defence’s Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre. Among them is that of my grandfather, Major Patrick Arthur Angier. (1/8)
