Does anyone still analyze with boards and pieces anymore? I feel as long as we are still playing tournaments face-to-face with real pieces that it's important for our visualization skills to also train with them sometimes. Otherwise the switch from virtual can be a subtle shock.

Of all the Candidates in Tata Steel, only Sindarov is on +1, Bluebaum is on 50% and Giri and Pragg are on -2. The anti-jinx is on full display for the last two. (Anand was last in Bilbao before beating Kramnik, Caruana had an awful Wijk before winning Berlin Candidates.)

Nice story, but I think there are quite a few players becoming a grandmaster without having a coach.
We are touched to read the words said by latest Indian GM Aaryan Varshney's father: "My son will probably be the first person to become a grandmaster without a coach,” Explaining his method of training, Gaurav added, “We used the ChessBase software only and focused on openings.
