After 23 years, an Athens man has been charged with murder by the GBI and the Athens-Clarke County Police Department for the death of Tara Louise Baker, a 23-year-old UGA law school student.

Week 7 Special Agent Academy ✅
This week the BAC class completed firearms training, which included practice in shooting in gas masks and other shooting situations.
The class also visited the children’s hospital for their community service project.

A 14-year-old boy was shot & killed in Pembroke. The GBI & Pembroke PD are seeking the public’s help with information.

Last year, I signed the Coleman-Baker Act so that we can bring closure and justice, far too long deferred, to families like this. May Tara’s memory live on through the good work of this Unit.

Crime scene specialists & agents from our Cleveland Regional Investigative Office gave a special presentation for the 1st & 2nd graders at Liberty Elementary School in Toccoa. The students got an up-close look at the tools and equipment that GBI special agents use in the field.

SAs Wilkes & Nipper took a deep dive into the GBI with the Coffee Co HS Criminal Justice class. SA Wilkes described the unique nature of cold case investigations, & SA Nipper gave an up-close look at the polygraph interview process. Some students even took a mock polygraph test!

SABT Mike Brooks caught the attention of the students at Woodlawn ES w/ a Bomb Disposal Unit demo.
The GBI Bomb Robot was very popular, but SABT Brooks also showed off the other gear GBI bomb technicians use, including an x-ray device that shows the inside of suspicious items.
