A clear upward trend in concurrent extreme temperature events in the Mediterranean Sea has been observed, with standalone events becoming less frequent. The interaction of MHWs and AHWs intensifies MHWs, increasing temperatures by 0.7–0.8°C compared to non-concurrent events.
