We can't believe we actually did it. Today, our proposals for an individualised risk-based policy assessing risk NOT sexuality becomes official government policy. ๐ฉธ๐ณ๏ธโ๐

We said the work we did with @FreedomToDonate was world-leading, here's why. Today, the FDA follows @NHSBT's lead and introduces a rather familiar new risk-based assessment for gay and bi donors ๐ฉธ๐ณ๏ธโ๐ https://t.co/lftrKsQExm

US Food and Drug Administration on Thursday paved the way for more gay and bisexual men to donate blood by finalizing new risk-based recommendations for blood donation. Going forward, prospective...
I made a promise that I'd never stop campaigning until I could repay the donor who saved my Grandad's life. Today, @FreedomToDonate's proposal of an individualised risk-based policy assessing risk NOT sexuality becomes official government policy. Could not be prouder. ๐ฉธ๐ณ๏ธโ๐

Fantastic to see Ireland also accept an individualised risk-based policy to make blood donation fairer and more inclusive. We said the UK would lead the way, now to ensure all those who want to donate, and could do so safely can. ๐ฉธ๐ณ๏ธโ๐ https://t.co/rVqVqVTSn7

The Irish Blood Transfusion Service is to introduce a new "fairer" system of risk assessment for donor eligibility from 28 November.

I wrote this piece for @Independent just over two years ago, ahead of my first ever #BloodDonation. Thanks to law changes (lobbied by the likes of @FreedomToDonate) I gave blood for sixth time yesterday๐ฉธ https://t.co/7shUmpbqqn

What does it say about the current rules thatย it took a coronavirus and a lockdown to make giving blood more feasible for queer men?

1 year ago today๐๐ The UK now assesses ALL donors, regardless of their sexuality, on their individual risk - unlocking thousands of new gay and bi donors. Countries around the world are now looking to the UK and we're supporting their work so all those who could donate can.

Heading to my 4th blood donation @GiveBloodNHS, I have made a donation ASAP after each 12 week break since I have legally been able to @FreedomToDonate (walking because can't go to the gym later, the humidity is being disagreeable with my hair)

The team of @FreedomToDonate never gave up and now the UK has one of the most inclusive blood donation policies anywhere in the world ๐ฉธ๐ณ๏ธโ๐ Standing alongside giants in this category, making a positive change for so so many, genuinely a honour to be nominated ๐

Great to see Germany pursuing an individualised risk-based policy for gay and bi men in their new coalition deal. In June, the UK announced a world-leading blood donation policy, here's to more countries following suit ๐๐ณ๏ธโ๐
4โฃ No restrictions on blood donations by gay and bi men, and trans people 5โฃ Funding of gender reassignment surgeries through public-private insurance 6โฃ Compensation for trans people who have suffered harm due to former gender change requirements

Great first donation experience @GiveBloodNHS. Thank you to @FreedomToDonate and all those that worked so hard to change the archaic (and frankly homophobic) donation rules earlier this year. Hereโs to many more free Kitkats.
