Join us and let's work together to reform the government's cruel, expensive, and ineffective #wildhorse and burro program. #KeepWildHorsesWild

On this Indigenous Peoples' Day, let's remember that the story of the wild horse is inseparable from the story of the Indigenous peoples who intuitively nurtured them and the land they shared. Let's fight for a world that treats the earth with gratitude and reciprocity. 🌾 🔄

Roundups don’t just harm wild horses in the moment—they can actually lead to population growth in the long run. It’s called compensatory reproduction. When wild horse populations are heavily disrupted or family bands are fractured, foal rates can increase.

⛰️ Tucked away in the mountains of Utah, the Cedar Mountain mustangs are the wildest of the wild. 🌿 Especially elusive and skittish, these herds are not used to humans, and we want to keep it that way! 🐎 #Utah #Wildhorse #Conservation #Wildlifeprotection #Horselover

For years, powerful livestock and energy interests have worked to erase these herds from the Wyoming Checkerboard to benefit their extractive operations. Public lands are NOT for private interests. #Stayready #protectourland #defendwildlife #wildhorses

A: The main cause of degradation to public lands is livestock—not wild horses. A congressionally-mandated study by the National Academy of Sciences found that in one year, livestock consumed 70% of grazing resources on public lands; wild horses and burros consumed less than 5%.🐄

On World Animal Day, we celebrate all the animals who share our western rangelands. Each of these incredible species plays an invaluable role in their ecosystem. We must cherish and protect these stewards of our public lands. Thank you for your part in keeping our wild ones wild!

A: No. This is pure propaganda. In fact, wild horses are present on just a tiny fraction of BLM land, and ranchers graze livestock on over 80% of it without any horses present. Except in a handful of isolated cases over the last several years, wild horses are fit and thriving.

For 30+ years, the Wild Horse Inmate Program has provided training that makes horses far more likely to be adopted, while offering incarcerated individuals valuable rehabilitation opportunities. 🚨 These are the kinds of programs the BLM should be expanding, not eliminating. 🚨

🌿 Our public lands belong to all of us. But rather than listening to the interests of the public—the vast majority of whom support wild horses in the wild—the federal government is capturing and removing wild horses to benefit private interests. Join us in defending our lands.

⚠️ The Devil's Garden roundup continues. Led by the USDA Forest Service, this California roundup began September 2nd and aims to capture 350 wild horses—about half the herd's population. 🚧 Despite a legal requirement for public observation, visibility is severely restricted.

Unbeknownst to the Wyoming Checkerboard horses, the land they call home is divided by invisible, yet heavily contested boundaries. Ranchers have been lobbying for years to eradicate these herds. BUT, recent months have yielded some MAJOR wins! Stay tuned. The fight continues ✊

Recently, Rep. Don Beyer reintroduced the Ejiao Act—a bill that would end US involvement in the cruel global donkey skin trade. The US is one of the top importers of ejiao products, complicit in driving both the cruelty and the devastating impact on people and ecosystems abroad.

Today, there are more wild horses in captivity than roaming free in the wild. Roundups, removals, and pressure from livestock interests continue to threaten their future. Steve Cahill's song, "Let the Wild Horse Run," calls on us to raise our voices for the last wild horses.

🎉 Exciting news! Thanks to the generosity of wild horse advocates Gail Holloway and Lindsay Robinson, AWHC has added a 40-acre parcel to our Fish Springs, NV, Land Preserve. This new addition helps expand safe, protected space for the wild horses who call Fish Springs home.
