BEAST OF WAR is the rare shark movie that's genuinely a good movie. A survival nightmare set during World War II, pitting soldiers up against a terrifying animatronic shark that I admittedly wish we saw a bit more of. Beautifully shot film. It's the Dog Soldiers of shark movies.

The Ed Gein Story explores some interesting ideas, particularly the way Hollywood turned a sick man into a mythical monster, but it all amounts to watching someone tastelessly play with action figures of celebrities, historical figures & murderers. A baffling endeavor by the end.

Counterpoint here is that nobody is acting like Get Out "invented prestige & mainstream horror." It's more that there was a clear shift in the genre in the wake of Get Out. Which there was! It's undeniable and it's just the reality. Inventor? No. Game changer? Absolutely.

Tobe Hooper always told that story of a trip to the store at Christmastime inspiring Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Standing in line, saw a chainsaw, imagined killing everyone with it. Monster: Ed Gein Story brings that scene to life with an actor playing Hooper. It's kind of insane!
