I’ve been a bit quiet with posts for the last few months, but have managed to finally finish up this Mallard custom.

Millicent and Gertrude completes the set of my custom Skarloey Railway Coaches

This is my take on TWR Skarloey coaches. A mixture of elements from the illustrations and from the Talyllyn railway coaches.

Made my way to a local model train show today. Pleasantly surprised to have found a couple of vendors selling a selection of Bachmann Thomas trains.

One might call this a cattle truck 🐄

A few of you have asked about the decals on my customs. They’re called dry transfer decals. I design the graphics then it’s printed on a clear transfer backing and applied on like a sticker. The backing is peeled off, leaving the decal in place with no visible edges/seams.

This one was a journey! I started with a D199 chassis, cut some wood to form the cab, sanded it back to get the shape. Then, researched RWS, wiki, its basis to design the livery. 3d modelled his face, painted and applied decals. I’m so happy with the final result.

Now the quartet is complete with Jock. This one took a while. Shoutout to @NWRKRIS for his model of Jock’s face.
