Crazy that the most exciting moment in 2020s StarWars wasn't shown in theaters. We saw this from the comfort of our homes. The collective cheer worldwide was amazing.

This is ironically true of all genuine fantasy. If the universe is not ours, then their spacetime settings could be at any relevant spacetime to ours. Or none. This is funny when people speak of fantasy spacetime settings as if they were analogous to our historical past.

Fiction thought: Star Wars subverted our expectations with spacetime setting. We typically think of space fantasy (space opera) as our potential future. Star Wars is the opposite: "a long time ago (distant past) in a galaxy far, far away (not us, not here)". True fantasy.

More like the humans in WALL-E than Terminator/Matrix.

This, to me, was more the essence of Herbert's Dune's prehistory of the Butlerian Jihad as opposed to other robotic AI enemies such as Terminator's Skynet or the Matrix's AI. In the Butlerian period, thinking machines hindered man's ability to think for himself.

Robots, as well as existent tooling, can threaten #1 (sports). The other concern is #2, the intelligent disciplines. The more we empower and rely upon machines to think for us, the more we threaten our capabilities for expanding our potential in intelligence.

AI-driven, intelligent, synced robots make for great scifi spectacle. 👍.But AI itself poses other threats. Humanity thrives when it pursues reaching its potential. 2 (of many) areas we see this are:.1. sports (physical potential).2. intelligent disciplines (mental potential).

Fiction thought: The part about AI enemies that doesn't resonate so well with me is the consistent depiction that AI generates body form enemies (robots of some kind) that humanity has to defeat. This is not the only way that AI could become an enemy of humanity.

Helped a non-dev with a GIT rebase yesterday. 3 DMs and he had it. Clean. That's above average for even devs. I complimented him accordingly.

Having that strange experience of describing events before my children were born as some kind of pre-history of their lives. My life is now pieces of their pre-history. Feels old, man. 😂 #parenting.

One of the surprises in my dev career has been replacing headphone earmuffs. I've had the same headphones for years and I'm now on my 3rd earmuff replacement. Kinda like shoes. That, and maybe my ears are rough. 😂.
