Despite the result, it was terrific for the City Ground to host the national side, and for us to see Morgan Gibbs-White wear the Three Lions on home soil. It also helped to whet the appetite for more international opposition on Trentside soon…. Until the next time.

We are again grateful to many people who turned out and helped us set up on Monday. This was made slightly more problematic by Senegal’s training session running late which we were not allowed to disturb, and their players then hanging around on the pitch for an age!

We were pleased to learn that Viv was invited to watch the display in person, as a guest of the F.A. Earlier today a message from Viv was shared with us who described our tribute as a ‘fabulous honour’, which was great to hear.

We were very aware that this was not the typical Trent End crowd who are always so helpful to our efforts, but also wanted to create something impressive to celebrate Viv. Hopefully we managed to do that and showcase the City Ground once again on a new setting.

One early thought was to focus on Viv’s childhood in Clifton, which is where the image of Viv of 1978 being mirrored onto the wall came from. The Clifton tower block is perhaps a little out of time given when it was built but we felt it was better to include it.

We were first asked by the F.A during planning for the cup semi-final about a display for this game. Immediately we proposed the idea of paying tribute to Viv. Although this was an England fixture, we wanted to keep it rooted in Nottingham & #NFFC heritage. 📸 Bob Thomas

We must also record our appreciation to a small army of volunteers who regularly give up their time and make things so much easier for us. But we are also grateful to anyone who has picked up a flag or just moved out of our way as we hurtle about the place. Thank you all.

A final note of thanks to all who have supported our cause over the last year, including those who generously donated recently. This included a really amazing contribution from @RyanYates97. Fundraising was so considerable we already have a decent amount ready for 2025/26.

There is much debate about whether it’s right to be dismayed with our placing of 7th. We can certainly look back and point at how far we have come, but maybe it’s not a bad thing to strive for more and burn up some frustration, as long as expectations don’t get the best of us.

It was really brilliant to include the ‘Munich Van’ in this display, an updated 2025 version from the one that Phil and his mates took to the 1979 European Cup Final. These little nods to history are always great to incorporate where we can.

Thanks, for a final time this season, to the Trent End for coming together once again for us. It might not be the brightest lights of Europe we had hoped for, but we can rightfully put the Garibaldi Reds back among the leading clubs in the country once again.
