On June 19 1865, General Order No. 3 declared all enslaved people in Texas free, two and a half years after Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. If you're in the DC area, you can see these documents in-person @USNatArchives 6/19-6/22!.
The National Archives Museum in Washington, DC, will display the original Emancipation Proclamation, along with General Order No. 3,.from Thurs., June 19, to Sun., June 22, 2025. Exhibit hours are 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. ET; timed ticket entry is available, but not required.
