Congrats @seanorr and @Lucyincanada on a decisive victory! This win is a strong rebuke against Sim’s musings of bringing back a motion to introduce gas in buildings later this year. Vancouver needs strong social & climate champions, not those who capitulate to gas lobbyists.
BREAKING... COPE's Sean Orr and OneCity's Lucy Maloney have WON the two Vancouver City Council seats in this by-election. ✅✅ #vanpoli #vanelxn #vanelxn25

As is, even if Reccomendation A were to only pass, Vancouver will still be behind leading cities like Burnaby, Port Moody, Victoria, Nanaimo, and more than a dozen others. Staff report here:

#Vancouver will fall behind the rest of the Lower Mainland and other regions in the province unless the staff report is amended to remove Recommendation B (path 2). @LisaDominato @PeterMeiszner.

As @sarahkirby_yung @LennyNanZhou @rebeccaleebligh and others consider allowing gas in buildings, it might be worth noting that @SquamishNation just released their Climate Legacy Strategy which includes having all buildings be zero carbon

Our strategy for advancing climate action in our Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Aysáych (Territory) articulates our vision and desire to take meaningful action on climate change within our Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Aysáy̓ch,...
Great to see @rebeccaleebligh listening to a broad group, including the construction industry, climate advocates, & businesses from tech, restaurants, and others calling on council to reverse this hasty decision to reintroduce gas in buildings. We hope others on council will too.

Happy to share that over 150 organizations across 🇨🇦 have join the call for a Youth Climate Corps. It's time to mobilize thousands of workers to strengthen our communities and respond to the climate crisis. That starts with a YCC. Read the letter at

Good to see some Coquitlam cllrs get building decarbonization as a win for our climate, our energy bills, and our health. We continue to call for full building electrification in 2025 & to join their neighbours including Burnaby, Port Moody and New West!

It’s quite concerning that with mounting evidence that gas in our homes is dangerous to our health, Vancouver council is reconsidering re-introducing gas in our homes #vanpoli @sarahkirby_yung @LennyNanZhou @rebeccaleebligh @LisaDominato @PtFry
Wow! A new study says harmful gases linked to heart and lung disease from gas stoves shave nearly two years off a person’s life. @CAPE_ACME

REVEALED: I found tax records showing that one of Canada’s top anti-climate websites is getting funding from a former fracking CEO. True North got $250k last year alone from the foundation of Gwyn Morgan. https://t.co/kfzRY4i2AO

Another great piece this morning, this time from *those in the construction industry* calling on council to keep polluting gas out of new buildings. Please reconsider your vote, @rebeccaleebligh @LennyNanZhou @sarahkirby_yung @MikeKlassen. It isn’t too late to do the right thing.
