There's actually a lot more going on with how the HVT pathing is set up/the unstuck mechanic, but basically either be sure you can burst it down before it triggers unstuck, or get it to unstuck first.

(2/2)...it will just teleport to one of those waypoints (very last one if enough damage). And when it reaches the last one it will actually despawn after ~5s standing there. So if your HVT isn't walking around (is stuck), wait for the first tele (unless you know you can one-shot)

Folks having issues with HVT disappearing: Bungie has some failsafe in place when an enemy can't path to its destination waypoint where it just teleports there instantly instead. When the HVT hits HP thresholds it sets new waypoints up to its 'escape point'. If it's stuck...(1/2)
