Hi! I’m a curator + writer in Madison, Wisconsin, USA. I run FlakPhoto Projects, a community hub focused on conversations about photography and visual culture.
I'm trying to wean myself off this Twitter feed. But if you liked the photography stuff I have shared here over the years, you might dig my newsletter. Please check it out!
My thing: promoting photography, photographers, photography books and everything in between. I love the stuff and can't get enough of it. Broadcasting daily here on
@FlakPhoto
. Doing my small part to put a signal in the noise. Hopefully not creating too much noise in the process.
I know, Instagram is THE place for photographers, but I'm convinced that Twitter has enormous potential for photo conversation, so I'm trying to connect with as many imagemakers as I can here. If you make pictures, I want to follow you. Looking forward to hearing from you!
I've never been much for macro photography, but I made this picture today and it's pretty dang enchanting. Is anybody here a flower photographer? If you make these kinds of pictures I would love to see them. Let me know! 🌸 RT
Thinking I should make a big list of Twitter photographers to make it easier to see pictures here. Let me know if you want on the list by replying to this tweet. And if you don't mind, go ahead and retweet this post so your followers can hear about this too. Sound good?
I miss photo prints. We spent the afternoon looking at old photos from our 20s. I make pictures every day, but how will I retrieve and look at them 20 years from now? Digital is amazing, but we really lost something when we gave up printed snapshots for smartphone images.
I'm going to recommend
#photographers
to follow here on Twitter. Hopefully, that drives some eyes to the many talented people here and helps y'all discover someone new. Drop me a line if you want a signal boost! I'm always looking and love seeing new work. Please RT 📸
I'm still trying to connect with photographers on Twitter. If you make pictures, I'd love to hear from you. Drop me a line so I can follow your feed? Thanks. RT
Instagram followers criticizing me for posting about vaccines on my feed -- they want to see photography, not hear my personal views. Social media is about being a real person. Saying what you feel. "Being authentic." You can always unfollow, dude.
I show photographers on Instagram every day and I love seeing new work. If you use IG, please send me your profie link so I can take a look. Thank you! 📸✨
I'm still trying to connect with every
#photographer
here on Twitter. If you make pictures I'd love to see them. Drop me a line so I can follow your feed? Thank you!
I'm losing Instagram followers because of my Trump criticisms. It's a bummer but it feels right to say what needs saying. Thanks for sticking with me here, folks. I appreciate it.
Some pictures are like pop songs - they're instantly recognizable and entirely classic. Y'know what I mean? This one gets me every time: William Eggleston / Untitled (Cocktail on a plane), 1965–74.
Photographer asked me: How does one find their own voice in photography? My advice: keep making pictures and studying photography. Pay attention to what you're attracted to photographing. Write about it. Finding words to explain what you see will help you focus your practice.
Photography people always talk about social media as something you NEED to use to market your work. To promote your brand. To sell. I wish more folks would approach social as a way to connect with colleagues. To learn from each other. To be inspired. That's its real promise.
I know some folks here don't like Instagram, but I still really enjoy looking at pictures there. If you show pictures on IG would you drop your profile link in a reply so I can check out your feed? I'm always looking and love seeing new work. Thank you! Please RT
A nice little
#phototwitter
community is forming here. I thought it'd be fun to introduce ourselves so we can get to know each other better. I'm Andy and I live in Madison, Wisconsin, USA. Reply to this tweet with a bit about yourself? Looking forward to hearing from you! 📸
Photographer friends, I thought it might be fun to show some pictures here today - Sound good? Retweet this post with one of your favorite images so we all can see it. I'm looking forward to seeing your stuff! RT
I've said this before and I'll say it again: Photography is good for you. Making and/or looking at pictures a little bit every day pays dividends. Who's with me? 📸😍
Photographer friends, I thought it might be fun to show some pictures here this weekend - Sound good? Retweet this post with one of your favorite images so we all can see it. I'm looking forward to seeing your stuff! RT
I've been asking photographers to send me their website URLs because I'm looking for work to show in my newsletter. It's surprising (and shocking) how many folks rely on Instagram as their web presence. That seems like a problem.
I'm still trying to connect with photographers here. If you make pictures, drop me a line so I can follow your feed? Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks! RT
“To me,
#photography
is an art of observation. It's about finding something interesting in an ordinary place... I've found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” — Elliot Erwitt
I was up before the sun again today. I always wish that I would have slept longer when this happens, but it's a real pleasure to watch the early morning light fill the room. A trade-off, I guess. The birds were going crazy out there today. Spring is finally here.
