We can’t fix education without fixing parenting. Teachers are burned out because too many children are showing up without the respect & discipline that should start at home. Until we hold parents accountable, the “teacher shortage’ will only worsen.

@FixingEducation What’s the demographic breakdown of that problem? Seems that’s real important to understanding who to “hold accountable” how.

@FixingEducation @LucyTrims What does that accountability look like in practice? How can we make parents parent?

@FixingEducation Many schools view parents as a barrier to, instead of partners in, their children’s educations. More properly, schools should be viewed as partners to the parents (who are responsible for educating).

@FixingEducation Parents to be accountable? Schools have zero discipline or code of conduct. Schools removed what was in place when my children were in school and parents supported the code of conduct. Schools value sports over education. 58% of students are below proficiency in math . When

@FixingEducation 1. statutory changes needed 2. not parental changes 3. current k12 cannot work even with Cinderella as the mom. 4. true family would be nice, but america doesn't have those anymore and education can happen without them if we perestroika k12 via legislation.

@FixingEducation If every parent had to “volunteer” one day per year and follow their child from class to class, I believe you would see a fundamental change in behaviors.

@FixingEducation If only said parents would realize they also have the option of homeschooling their offsprings.

@FixingEducation Respect starts at home, but parents need support too. When families feel equipped and confident, children thrive - and teachers feel the benefit. Fixing education means supporting parents and schools.

@FixingEducation If we want parents to own their part of the parent partnership, maybe schools need to be owned by parents.

@FixingEducation Also, schools should be the first time kids here the word "NO". As an AP, I deal this every day for the past 4 years and when I call home, I hear "Johnny/Susie doesn't act like that at home."

@FixingEducation @angrythebadger The right to an education belongs to students, not their parents. Schools should absolutely support and partner with parents for the best outcomes for students, but penalties that deny students instruction to send a message home are just wrong.
