Went out to eat tonight and when I was about to swipe my card to pay the bill I asked my waiter if I should pay him his tip through the machine if he would get it. He told me that when it’s done like that the restaurant takes 20% of it.
I asked him who gets the gratuity that is charged, he said the staff doesn’t. I was disappointed to hear that. I didn’t have cash on me but luckily there was an atm close by so I opted to go and get the cash for his tip.
His service was excellent and I personally don’t think he should be robbed that 20%. The restaurant is already so expensive just allow him to get that little change for himself.

Yes! I was very disappointed to hear but also not surprised. I’ve always preferred to tip in cash because I was not sure how it went when I paid through card. Now I am 100% never tipping through card again.

The moment I found this out i always slide them the type in their hand, it's just too unfair for such hard work in the service industry

If the waiter gives excellent service but the food is ordinary, chances are you won't tip. So maybe it's in order that tips for the waiters are shared with kitchen staff.
@FitBecks
Yup. Its also taxes because digital tips are attached to their checks. I work good service so I’m well aware. That’s why I don’t tip digitally anywhere
