Yesterday’s local elections in Georgia were held after months of increasing repression. Violence is not acceptable nor is disinformation about the EU’s role in 🇬🇪 & personal attacks against the 🇪🇺 Ambassador. Citizens’ rights to freedom of assembly & expression must be upheld.

We had a very meaningful exchange with PM @NikolPashinyan. We congratulated Armenia on the landmark progress with Azerbaijan in Washington, facilitated by @POTUS Trump. A crucial step towards peace and stability in the region. We are determined to deepen our cooperation.

In an online meeting with Georgian media and civil society representatives, I discussed recent #MediaFreedom developments. Media and journalists in #Georgia are working under constant pressure and I commend their dedication and resolve to independent journalism.
