A colleague (@AyalMeskeremAk) recently raised how the Global North narrative of vaccine hesitancy in Africa affected Vx discourse in Africa. Last year I addressed this at a @devex event: Why was there such a preoccupation about vaccine hesitancy in Africa but not in Europe/US? 👇🏽

Having the third most powerful passport in the world means nothing until and unless @MalaysiaMFA can get the scum that is border control @Schiphol to understand what that means vis-a-vis condescending interrogations at the border.

Atlas: “I was sitting across from Anthony Fauci in August of 2020, and he looked at me and said, ‘One of the biggest problems is the American public is not afraid enough.’ This was the task force… it’s a completely unethical way to do public health.”

The withdrawal of U.S. funding has disrupted TB programmes worldwide, threatening hard-won progress in DRC and Kenya. Communities are losing access to diagnostics, treatment, and care. Read more, directly from the communities we work with: https://t.co/elgwDLqi1d

A pleasure chairing this stellar panel on governance, equity, & political commitment in public health emergencies in SE Asia. Key insights incl. the need to account for the biological weapons convention, national sovereignty over genetic sequence data & regional vax coordination.

Great to hear journalists Al-Jazeera unpacking the trends in American media, including that they are reporting that bombing has stopped in Gaza. At least 20 people have been killed by bombing in Gaza today, so this is obviously deliberately/negligently inaccurate.

Why does @Keir_Starmer not understand that Judaism is not the same as Zionism? Pro-Palestinian protests are to object the massacres of more than 200,000 Palestinians, and there are plenty of Jewish people attending.

Escalating violence near Al-Rantisi and Ophthalmic Hospitals in #Gaza City has made the facilities nonfunctional, unsafe and inaccessible, forcing patients and staff to flee for safety. Al-Rantisi, which was attacked and damaged last week, was Gaza's only specialized pediatric

Without a single doubt, we are witnessing some of the most heinous and barbaric genocidal practices that the world has ever seen.
On 15 September, Israeli forces fired upon our clearly marked water truck in Gaza City. This attack cannot be dismissed as an error. It was a deliberate attempt to sabotage water distribution to civilians: https://t.co/0OqdaDvlUv

Sanctions are one of the reasons why the United States objected to the terms “timely and unfettered access” to pandemic products in the Pandemic Treaty negotiations.
This is deeply shocking and disturbing. US and EU sanctions — mostly imposed on developing countries — are associated with 400,000–1,000,000 deaths *every single year*.

The rest of the world must work to reestablish lost expertise elsewhere. I spoke to Malaysian and Togolese academics this year about hiring American scientists even on short term to transfer technology. “No money”, both said. These are worthwhile investments.

In February 2025 of this year I gave a talk at @UMDLaw and I said that American health will get worse. As we see CDC directors resign and RFK continue to peddle dangerous information - everything we feared is materialising.

Israel has killed four journalists today with a deliberate bombing and will be going ahead with the invasion into northern Gaza. The young dentistry student we are supporting will have no choice but to move south to live in a tent. Utterly despicable set of affairs.

Excellent presentation by Catherine Villegas at the @MSF event on the sidelines of @ticad_official in Yokohama. Labs which are far away mean samples get degraded, meaning results can’t be returned to patients. As a result people die of preventable diseases.

Fouad is the amazing young dentistry student that @AnnetteGaudino and I have been supporting through this genocide. His younger brother, who has scoliosis, must be evacuated. @HananBalkhy can anything be done?

For example, during COVID-19, new state of the art diagnostics tools were set up in a lab in Bayelsa state. When COVID ended, these tools were not repurposed for other diseases, despite being perfectly capable to. Samples are still sent to large cities in other states (!!!)

Loved teaching health law and governance to these African Epidemic Service fellows @AfricaCDC. So interesting to also learn from them. From Bayelsa State in Nigeria to the Likouala Department in the Republic of Congo, there are so many service gaps that need rights lenses!

Once again an Israeli government minister clearly and publicly inciting genocide. His message is textbook - "annihilation", "destruction" "cleanse". This is a genocidal regime that must be removed from power and brought to justice. #Israel
⚡️🇮🇱Israel’s Minister of Finance Bezalel Smotrich: "We conquer, cleanse, and stay... On the way, we annihilate everything that still remains.….We're breaking Gaza apart, leaving it as a pile of rubble, total unprecedented destruction." https://t.co/5bDj27gcyQ

The staff try a couple of times with the same share code, then say that the UK government have made their lives harder by employing this system. Not their fault of course. They let me through anyways - but this is why the UK govt needs to stop this share code nonsense.
At Addis Bole international airport on the way home to the UK. As usual, front desk staff ask for my eVisa share code, which is an alphanumeric code. I give them the code, and this is the image that comes up on the UK visa website. @SeemaMalhotra1
