Cold realism of player strengths and what to do in the next phase of a high press have abandoned Kenny and Ireland. The future is very bright and Kenny has more than helped to screw in the bulb but he's lost his way on how to keep the light on (as I have in this analogy).

Ferguson's rise is owed to Brighton and that has twisted the arm. Kenny has lost faith in his own vision as it's doesn't involve the harsh reality checks of how to win games. A 'hybrid' approach appears as a cop out but it's the reality of tournament qualification across Europe.

Defeat to Dutch side which can go either way shows so many flaws. Lack of belief/motivation/structure failed to rouse against a beatable team in front of a home crowd and the lack of direction is huge. Ferguson is arguably a case in point over how Kenny has stumbled on solutions.

A lack of breakthrough at PL level has remained as a clear counter to Kenny's dogmatoc faith in certain players. Old habits have died hard and the hope for a Messiah goes against his measured approach. Evan Ferguson is the answer to plenty, but not all, questions.

The perpetual In v Out fan debate will never be settled and no one wins. What Kenny stands for is undoubtedly what was/is needed but the execution has been clumsy and unclear. An ability to sit between pragmatism and idealism has never been sat well and is Kenny's final undoing.

🧵If tonight/November is the end of Stephen Kenny.....there can be no complaints or knee jerk reactions. Time and patience have been given and the game plan won't be completely dropped in the bin regardless of successor. But change is a neccessary arrival in 2024...that's a fact.
