Out May 28: "What Really Went Wrong: The West and the Failure of Democracy in the Middle East"
@YaleBooks
I am praying for the safety of student protesters. They are showing bravery and a fierce moral urgency. They are rightfully fed up with the continuing bloodshed in Gaza and refuse to accept the imperial cynicism of Western governments.
As a lifelong teacher and academic, it deeply pains me to see repression of campus protests. Students must be allowed to peacefully organize and voice their opinions. University leadership should fiercely protect this right, not target their own students for arrest and expulsion.

I wrote for
@ProSyn
about how American indifference to the scale of the devastation in Gaza is an all too familiar reminder of how Western powers have dealt with post-colonial states and their people. Please let me know what you think.
When people across the Middle East and the Global South look at Gaza, they see Western – especially American – hypocrisy is on full display,
@FawazGerges
explains.
"On average 247 Palestinians are being killed & are at risk of being killed each day. Many of them literally blown to pieces. They include 48 mothers each day, 2 every hour. And over 117 children." From the v powerful South Africa ICJ closing statement:
The War on Terror was a war of choice, not necessity, and it has been costly in blood and treasure.
While we cannot turn back the clock, as we approach the 20th anniversary of 9/11, part of the United States’ national conversation should be to reflect on what went wrong.

Thank you
@thetimes
for review of latest book: "Gerges spent a decade interviewing ageing revolutionaries and conspirators. Many of them I thought were long since dead and, as many now are, this is an important work of journalism as well as history."
Spoke to
@SkyNews
about how Israel's ongoing war in Gaza continues to escalate into multiple theaters and, without an immediate ceasefire, risks expanding into a regional conflict in the Middle East that involves both the United States and Britain.
Thank you
