Fourth, we briefly illustrate the interaction between these factors in the case of conditionality measures introduced as part of recent industrial policy measures in the US (CHIPS, IRA & IIJA) and the EU (RRF, EU CHIPS and EDF). It was fun, we hope you find it useful!.

We find these unit-level factors to interact with global dynamics like geopolitical tensions, global corporate strategies and supranational legal agreements to shape the political economy space for the introduction of conditionality.

First, we define conditionality in the context of industrial policy as a relationship between state actors and private companies, in which state actors provide financial support in exchange for something. Private/public relation means this is different from IMF conditionality.
