OTD in 1943, Bill Cameron was captured in Tunisia. Handed to the Germans and sent to Stalag Luft III, he was a tunneller, taking part in the Great Escape. He survived the war, returning to Canada to start a family. Our episode with his family is out next year!. Credit: DVFP

OTD in 1944, Ben Vlielander-Hein was supposedly captured in Norway. Interned in Sweden he went to Norway, was captured and escaped back to Sweden. However, there is more to this than meets the eye!. Check out our episode on him here: Photo: Wikipedia

OTD in 1917, John Francis Williams was born in Clapham, London. He served with 107 Squadron, and was shot down over Lille, France, on 27 April 1942. He was a soil dispersal 'penguin', but was one of the Fifty shot for his part in the Great Escape. Photo: Surrey Comet

OTD in 1941 Alfred Keith 'Skeets' Ogilvie was taken PoW. One of the last to exit tunnel 'Harry', he was recaptured after two days. Liberated in April 1945, he passed away in May 1998. Our episode with his son, Keith Ogilvie, is out next year. Photo:
