FSP-NWU stands in solidarity with the Vox Media Union as they prepare to strike. We pledge to support our colleagues by committing not to cross the digital picket line, as readers OR as workers. We don’t scab when staff unions strike!

We know that's right - glad you're getting the digital justice you deserve, Angel, and hope you and other creative workers will join us in organizing for a media industry that doesn't flagrantly exploit freelance labor.

overwhelmed by the support i've received these past few hours but also disheartened that this seems to have happened to every kind of creative 🥲 hopefully, my experience compels the industry to step up + freelancers to stop taking this sitting down!

FSP-NWU asked writers to share what they’ve been paid for book criticism, and how long each project took them. Out of the 91 reports we received, 26 writers reported being paid less than the federal minimum wage of $7.25 for their work. Help us fight to raise pay!

If you’re an entertainment reporter or critic — especially at a Valnet publication — add your rates to the FSP rate sharing survey to improve transparency across our industry and strengthen any future direct action campaigns our members might take on. https://t.co/PcY4NfsHel

If the publication models of the digital age won’t allow us to work in dignity, then workers will continue to build our own alternative structures, like our 1st VP @abbyhiggins did with @51stnews https://t.co/3PYvkCBSTb

To our knowledge, Polygon’s editorial staff have consistently followed the key tenets of our Principles for Working with Freelancers: transparent & fair rates, clear contracts, & paying freelancers in a timely manner.

We condemn Vox Media’s May Day decision to lay off a majority of @Polygon staff w/o warning as part of the sale to known media-brand-destroyer Valnet. We stand in solidarity with the staff who were laid off, and with @vox_union in their ongoing contract negotiations.

Press freedom is under attack, but for some communities the limits of that freedom have always been deeply felt. Watch the recording of our panel on incarcerated journalists’ fight for press freedom that marked last year’s World Press Freedom Day.
