"Failure in #WASH is difficult to talk about, but if we can learn from one another, we can continuously improve our work.β Such an important topic taken up by @SanLearningHub ! Read and download!

Thanks for a fun failures week, Radix crew! For more, check out our Frontiers article: https://t.co/5Gdcg7pNad Follow @FSM_Fail for WASH failures or me @BexSindall for occasional research GIF threads! Failure to switch off is a big issue in research so have a relaxed Sunday!

With funders clearly being an important part of how water and sanitation operates in parts of sub-Saharan Africa, it only seemed reasonable to find out why they think failures occur, so with generous support from @SanLearningHub we asked them!

It's been a bit of a depressing start to the week with all this talk about failures! So today let's look at what we can do about them? What's the best way to address failures, ideally to stop them occuring but also to limit the damage they do when they do take place?

Practical tips on sharing failures! #WASHTwitter
It's nearly the end of the work week (at least for me it is!) and sharing is caring, so let's look today at how we can share and learn from failures! Unsurprisingly, there's no one size fits all solution for this but we'll look at a few different settings...

If you are at a mega-conference... A well-designed icebreaker can help build rapport and break down power barriers to promote sharing. We hosted failure gameshows at international conferences to act as (rather elaborate) icebreakers. They even had prizes!

We are failing many people in high income countries.
Very proud to be a co-author on this important paper, published today in @LancetGH, where we provide evidence that racism, social exclusion and discrimination are stopping us achieving universal water and sanitation in high income countries https://t.co/e0So2MtzcW

It's Tuesday and we're talking about why failures happen. In 2020 we asked over 100 frontline professionals in water and sanitation in 4 sub-Saharan African countries why failures happen, how they discuss them, and how we can build a culture of sharing and learning from failures.

This week we'll be talking about why failures happen, what role systemic issues play in causing failures, how to address failures and how to talk about them... But let's start with the basics! Why are @FSM_Fail so obsessed with failures?

This is like the twin account of @FSM_Fail - WASH Wins! Wait, are we the evil twin?! π
the people who want to ban tiktok would think differently if they followed my favorite account, which is called @unclogging_drains

When vetting a charity, a giver can glean significant information by asking about the organization's failures. Learn three questions to ask to gauge if a charity assesses and grows from failure.

@Sparsh85 @susana_org @SGarakahalli @andreshuesoWA Thanks Paresh for hosting the meeting. I loved the little round of "Confessions of a busy Forum user/non-user" we had π. It had quite some @FSM_Fail's for us as @susana_org community to think about going forward.

What makes a failure... a failure? Making sure all stakeholders in a project or programme have a shared idea of what success and failure look like is a useful starting point. #WASHTwitter Read more: https://t.co/hWM7wTf3s4

Getting people to talk about failure is tricky - and using that term won't work everywhere! See the full publication on Learning From and Preventing Failure in #WASH

The last few #WASH Failures badges are with @Dani_Barrington at the @WASHFutures conference- find her and grab one if you're keen - she's generally easy to find as the most colourful person in the room! #waterandwashfutures #WaWF23
