He faintly registered the host announcing his name as he walked towards his lane and climbed onto the diving board. He breathed out a sigh for the nth time, properly put on his goggles, and got into position.

Jade breathed out a sigh, safe for now, and gave a firm nod. He beelined towards the locker room to leave his bag and change out of his pajama pants — embarrassing. It took no longer than a minute for him to come out, already in his trunks and with his goggles around his neck.
