The ball, dome and lantern have now been dismantled and the stones laid aside at the top of the scaffolding. It will take a while for the replacement stones to be delivered and cut into shape before the structures can be rebuilt.

The cabins are in position and the area in between them and the tower is caged off. We are so grateful to @friendschurches for this restoration project. Watch their video to find out what has been and what needs to be done.

As the poster explains this classical concert on Saturday 11th October at 7pm will include a new piece written especially to celebrate the 150th anniversary of St. Matthew's Church Lightcliffe.

The tower of St. Matthew's church will be open for tours from 2 - 4 pm on Sat 13th & Sun 14th September as part of their 150th celebrations & #HODs. Although the 250 year old Lightcliffe tower is encased in scaffolding the churchyard can still be visited.

The scaffolding is up and the tiers are 'netted' allowing the experts to get up to the cupola to assess what exactly needs to be done to make this 250 year old tower stable and weather proof for the foreseeable future.

This morning it looked as if there was a pagoda in the churchyard as the scaffolding gets higher and higher. It will eventually go up and over the ball on the cupola.

The works on Lightcliffe tower funded by Friends of Friendless Churches has started! The scaffolders arrived this morning to start the project which could take 16 to 26 weeks.

This memorial to #AnnWalker's brother John who died on his honeymoon in Naples - read John and Fanny Walker.pdf - eventually made it into the van. The restorers will reattach the corner piece & the memorial inscription that should be underneath it.

This morning the memorials in the tower that are going away to be repaired & cleaned were collected by the Grantham restorers. They will reattach the corner piece of the cracked memorial to #AnnWalker's parents & siblings.
