Ten years ago on this day, a shooting star went to Heaven. Jules Bianchi had charisma and loads of talent, but that damn Suzuka accident cost him his life. A very sad story, a tragedy. Race in Heaven, Jules!

Juan Manuel Fangio, the Maestro, was born on this day in 1911 in Balcarce, Argentina. His skill behind a steering wheel was unrivalled, and he is still vastly regarded as the greatest race driver ever. I was fortunate to have known him. Portrait by Bernard Cahier, Monaco 1956.

Gilles Villeneuve was wild, and that's why everyone loved him. But with the level of risk he took, it was inevitable that something bad would happen to him, driving the very dangerous cars of that era. The Little Prince went to the sky on May 8th, 1982. Photo: Zandvoort 1979

Mike Spence lost his life testing at Indy in 1968, on May 8th. Charming, unassuming but fast, he was part of the deadly quatuor which were killed in 1968 in four consecutive months. Photo by Bernard Cahier: Mike Spence in the BRM with Jackie Stewart sitting next to him, Spa 1967

April 7th will always be remembered as a sad day, the day when the iconic Jim Clark lost his life in 1968. Jim Clark was simply a phenomenal race driver, and will never be forgotten. Photo by Bernard Cahier. Jim Clark and his rival friend Dan Gurney battling in Zandvoort 1965.
