Today municipal assemblies and mayors took office in 20 🇽🇰 municipalities after inclusive local elections. I welcome the smooth handover of municipal governance, including in the four northern municipalities, and expect the new mayors to represent the interests of all citizens.

Thousands of Ukrainian children have been taken from their homes by Russia. In a landmark vote, the UN adopted a resolution condemning these abductions and demanding that the children be returned to Ukraine. We will continue our efforts until every child is safely home.

Belarus: Today, the EEAS summoned the Chargé d’Affaires to the EU to deliver a demarche on the unacceptable situation of the Lithuanian hauliers held in Belarus, and on the hybrid actions emanating from the Belarusian territory and constituting a threat to the EU.

Russian drone violations of Moldova’s airspace are unacceptable and put civilian air traffic at risk. The EU is investing 20 million EUR this year in Moldova’s air-defences to help strengthen the country’s security. Moldova’s skies cannot become a casualty of Russia’s war.
